Press Release:

Manila, Philippines (3 May 2014) – In its ongoing commitment to promote active, healthy living, Coca-Cola Philippines recently kicked-off the fourth season of the Coca-Cola Football Festival at the Alabang Country Club last May 3-4.

The league gathered 240 teams or over 3,600 players from all over the country to vie for championships in 11 different age categories. Coca-Cola Football Festival was played on 22 football fields simultaneously and followed a 7A Side Football Format wherein each team is limited to 7 players. Only one team per club or school per division is allowed to join the cup.
“We are very happy with the response that the Coca-Cola Football Festival received in the previous seasons. Last year, we had about 2,700 players joining us on these fields and now we’re at the 3,600 mark. This proves the growing interest of Filipinos in football and it is something Coca-Cola Philippines would like to invest on so that in the long run, we could enjoin more people to take on more active, healthy lifestyles through sports,” said Guillermo Aponte, President and General Manager of Coca-Cola Philippines.
In 2013, teams such as the Green Barons, Miriam College, Xavier Football Club, Roxas Wildcats Football Club, Masbate Football Club, Makati Football Club, De La Salle University, FC Sikat, De La Salle Zobel, Makati FC Elite, and Makati Football School took home the championship trophies in various categories.
The teams who emerged as champions for 2014 were DBosco Garelli (Men’s Open), De La Salle Zobel (Ladies Open), Makati FC/Elite (Boys 10), La Salle GH (Boys 8), Makati FS (Players 6), ABC Stars Naga (Girls 14), Claret FC (Boys 16), Makati FC (Girls 16), Filipinas Dragons (Boys 14), Claret FC (Boys 12), and ABC Stars Naga City (Girls 12).
“Coca-Cola believes that physical activity is requisite to being healthy. Understanding what energy balance is—that is calories in, calories out—means knowing that the calories we take in, whether from a slice of cake or a bottle of Coca-Cola, we should also be able to expend. That is the core of our overall program on wellbeing,” added Aponte.
The commitment of Coca-Cola Philippines towards the promotion of wellbeing is hinged on a global sustainability framework, which also involves women’s economic empowerment and environmental protection.
Globally, the Company supports over 280 active healthy living programs in 115 countries, helping individuals make informed choices on food consumption, proper hydration, and the benefits of engaging in different forms of physical activity. Among those done locally are the Coca-Cola Football Festival, the Red Cross Million Volunteer Run, and ongoing Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars.
“Through our different programs and initiatives, we try to contribute in providing workable solutions to the current issues of today. That is our commitment as a Company. At the same time, we also help educate and promote that regular exercise, paired with a sensible, balanced diet is a step closer to having an active, healthy lifestyle,” Aponte added.
The Coca-Cola Football Festival is a collaborative effort between Coca-Cola Philippines, Powerade, Makati Football Club, Alabang Football School, Alabang Country Club, and the NCR Football Association.
Internationally, the Coca-Cola Company also has a long-standing relationship with FIFA since 1974, and has been an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup since 1978. Through the Company’s ‘World’s Cup Campaign’, it invites the world to celebrate football as a force for social good.

Press Release:
Manila, Philippines–Coca-Cola Philippines, in cooperation with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), launch the Women’s Month Celebration with the theme: Juana ang Tatag Mo ay Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong— a celebration of the Filipino women’s resiliency and the country’s journey towards disaster-recovery.
Kicking-off the month-long event is an attempt to set the record of the most participated women symbol formation at the Quirino Grandstand, March 08, with Coca-Cola and PCW gathering over 10,000 participants from the national and local government, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
“Our Women’s Month Celebration aims to echo a united voice in valuing the indispensable role of women in recovery, progress, and nation-building. Our line-up of activities for this month shows the Company’s commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of Filipinas,” says Atty. Adel Tamano, Vice-President for Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola Philippines.

Coca-Cola and Women Empowerment

The active participation of Coca-Cola Philippines in the Women’s Month Celebration is aligned with its global mandate to empower 5 million women by 2020, with a program branded 5by20.
Locally, the company has partnered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), to create the Sari-Sari Store Training and Access to Resources (STAR) program, with gender-sensitive modules customized for Filipino women micro-entrepreneurs. It mainly aims to transform women sari-sari storeowners into becoming better entrepreneurs through a combination of components that help them overcome barriers to business success. The components of the program include: (1) provision of scholarship for formal training on Basic Entrepreneur Skills and Gender Sensitivity; (2) access to financial resources; and (3) access to store merchandising support.
The 5by20 STAR Program is anchored on the premise that Filipina variety store owners play a crucial role in the economic development of small communities, through their businesses. It is currently assisting more than 20,000 women in the country, including those who have been affected by Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region.

Journey to recovery

“Coca-Cola is in a unique position to help women retailers because of the nature of our business and our operations. Through inclusion in our value chain, we ensure that our beneficiaries would grow along with the company. For many years, we have been championing well-being, women empowerment, and water stewardship, but this time, we also aim to assist in the country’s recovery from Yolanda by leveraging on our existing projects such as 5by20,” says Tamano.
To date, the Company along with the USAID has committed to helping 1,500 sari-sari storeowners in the Visayan region rebuild, rehabilitate, and restock their businesses.
“The human symbol puts the spotlight on how women are poised to become the social and economic power houses of the future and how much organizations like Coca-Cola and PCW value their contributions,” concludes Tamano

If there is one lesson to learnt from Typhoon Yolanda- is that no act is too small. This is what Coca-cola, Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity believes, that whoever we are, we can help in our own big or small way, will still be help. Right after Typhoon Yolanda struck the country, Coca-cola immediately re-allocates some of their marketing funds to help Yolanda victims, they immediately sent relief and aid to over 200,000 families through its partner Philippine Red Cross and DSWD, also donated more than $2.5 million to aid in the relief operation for the typhoon, gave Php 10 million worth of cellphone load for communication, donated Php 4 Million from the company’s employees.
Still now isn’t the end yet of helping that’s why Coca-cola, Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity ask help for everybody to help rebuild the nation (#rebuildPh). Aside from donating money, Red Cross accepts blood donations as well to help, Blood is still thicker than anything in this world.
Coca-cola endorsers supports this campagin #RebuildPH, recently had a benefit concert where some of our celebrity idols invited everyone, namely Enchong Dee, Joseph Marco, Julia Montes, Kathryn Bernardo, Binibining Pilipinas beauties and some of the biggest names in the opm music industry such as Kean, Eunice, Kleggy and Tutti.
