MANILA, Philippines — Widespread support has poured in for the country’s freshly-released enhanced tourism campaign, Love the Philippines.

News5 reported that social listening tool Sprinklr recorded 59.1 million approval emotions from the public and a combined 28.9 million smile, happy, and appreciation emotions on the Love the Philippines campaign in the last 24 hours as of 4:50PM of Thursday (Jun 29).

Former Senator and Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Richard GORDON, the brains behind the successful “WOW PHILIPPINES campaign, manifested his support, saying that he found the enhanced campaign “instantly appealing”.

In a report, he said that Love The Philippines is “catchy and easy to recall”, adding that the phrase also “provides a double-meaning call for Filipinos to love the country more than just its physical wonders but also the people’s good traits. He said it is also a statement of appreciation for the Philippines experienced by tourists.”

United States Ambassador to the Philippines Marykay L. Carlson also expressed her support to Love The Philippines through a tweet, manifesting her personal love for the Philippines since she came here as diplomat.

“Almost one year since I arrived and I already have lots of reasons to #LoveThePhilippines—the food, the culture, and definitely the people,” she said.

National government officials have also conveyed their support to the enhanced tourism campaign.

“I love it!”, Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri was quoted by a news report, complimenting the branding campaign as “clear and concise”.

Posting “Love the Philippines” on her Instagram, Senator Loren Legarda said that there are countless ways to love about the country, and expressed her full support to the newly launched campaign.

Former Senate President Pro Tempore and now House Deputy Speaker Ralph G. Recto, who described the Philippines as a destination like “garden of roses”, also aired his support through a statement.

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. As a travel destination, Philippines is a garden of roses. I support the DOT’s new campaign,” the House Deputy Speaker enthused.

Meanwhile, Senator Grace Poe recognized the efforts of the DOT to lure more tourists to visit the Philippines. Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero encouraged the public to “support it instead of criticizing it outright”.

Tourism achievements in numbers

Half into this year, the DOT has already recorded 2.67 million international visitor arrivals as of June 29, 2023, 2.44 million of this are foreigners. This year, the Department is targeting a baseline of 4.8 million international tourist arrivals.

South Koreans remain the top source of foreign markets with 665,757 travelers to the Philippines, followed by the United States (509,526), Australia (128,232), Japan (127,139), and Canada (123,439).

In 2022, the industry contributed 6.2 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) having churned in PHP1.87 trillion in tourism revenues.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed her gratitude to the public and to all officials who have given widespread support for Love the Philippines.

In a television interview addressing the question of some whether Love the Philippines is a “demand” from tourists, the DOT chief said that love is not demanded as it is a natural thing that must emanate from the heart.

On the aspect of tourism, by reflecting the bountiful assets of the Philippines—from its natural wonders to its heritage, traditions, and culture–into Secretary Frasco said she has high hopes that the campaign will reawaken love for the country.

“You cannot “demand” love. It is a natural thing that must emanate from your heart. “Love the Philippines” goes to the heart of every Filipino that loves their country. You can no more force one person to love their country in the same way that you cannot force them to love themselves, or somebody else. It is a natural feeling that must come from your heart. And we truly believe that in reflecting our love of country in our new tourism tagline, we would be able to reawaken in our fellow Filipinos their own love of country,” she said.

Further, Secretary Frasco said that the tagline is also the Philippines’ “love letter to the world”, giving international tourists an opportunity to discover and know more about the Philippines, beyond the promotions and stories done in the past primarily focused on fun, reiterating that there is so much more that the Philippines can offer from its heritage, culture, history, food, experiences, and especially the love and warmth of the Filipino people.

In a separate online interview with Facts First with Christian Esguerra, veteran advertising executive Matec Villanueva shared the same observation.

“From the ground up, the first question is always: sino ba ang kinakausap ko? Who is my target audience? The target audience mo, in this case as I understand, would be foreign tourists kasi ang tiningnan din pala nila is yung kalaban in the regions,” Villanueva said.

“So, what they are trying to do is that they are trying to encapsulate that message to something that is inspiring, something that is catchy. Therefore, they come up with what we call the big idea. But the big idea is actually based on a consumer insight or your target insight,” she added.

To Secretary Frasco, the launch of “Love the Philippines” was based on the demands of the industry after the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. This, as what was once a global health emergency has changed travelers’ motivations, preferences, and behavior, leading to what is now referred to as “the changed traveler.”

The advertising executive also realized this in the enhanced tourism campaign.

“Tatlong taon tayong nakalockdown. Iba ang turista before the pandemic. Iba ang turista ng after the pandemic. Nag-iba ‘yung pananaw nila kasi before the pandemic, people are already traveling, enjoying, and then suddenly you can’t move for three years,” Villanueva said.

Building love as a concept

Love The Philippines as a concept, Secretary Frasco said, was conceived with careful consideration of the results of extensive market research and studies.

According to a market research released by Euromonitor, one of the world’s leading independent providers of strategic market research, travelers are seeking new and authentic real-world experiences, which means immersing in other cultures, seeking curated experiences that are unique or out of the ordinary.

Further, travelers want to find a connection to love, and the word “love” has always been primarily associated with the Philippines. Based on Brandwatch, one of the world’s most trusted social media monitoring and analytics applications, the word “love” is frequently mentioned in high volume globally with total mentions of 140.4K (previously 92.24K) and a reach of 91.21M (previously 59.72M).

The enhanced tourism campaign, Secretary Frasco said, was designed to highlight more of what there is to love about the Philippines.

“What food do they love? What destination do they love? What experience do they love in the Philippines? It’s also an opportunity for our foreign friends from all over the world to discover so much more beyond the surface that we have scratched in how we have marketed the Philippines thus far,” Secretary Frasco said.

In an interview, Villanueva also said: “In this age of communication, ang advertising ngayon is always based on research because access to information, access to data. Now apparently, the group who did this, even the group (who conceptualized) the It’s More Fun in the Philippines had data supporting them when they came out with It’s More Fun in the Philippines. Apparently, DOT says tourists who came to the Philippines, the feeling when they came here, nag-exceed ang expectations nila. They were happy with what they experienced kasi nga tourism is an experiential thing. When they took a deep dive sa mga social media, into the internet, nakita nila na ang expression ng tao ng satisfaction o yung exceeding expectations was’t fun, it was love,” she emphasized.

“The verbalization of the enjoyment was love,” she added.

MANILA, Philippines — On the celebration of the golden year of the Department of Tourism (DOT), President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., together with Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and other officials, led the unveiling of the country’s enhanced tourism campaign “Love the Philippines” as the highlight of the Department’s 50th founding year celebration at the iconic Manila Hotel, Tuesday (June 27)

Proudly presenting “Love the Philippines” to a crowd composed of former DOT chiefs, officials and employees of the Department’s central and regional offices, heads of government agencies including Cabinet Secretaries, house representatives, tourism stakeholders, and the media, Secretary Frasco described the enhanced campaign as timely for the DOT’s golden anniversary celebration.

“As we cap the last fifty years of the DOT and welcome this new era of tourism for the Philippines, it is but right that we welcome this opportunity to reintroduce the Philippines to the world,” Secretary Frasco said.

“Love the Philippines goes to the very heart of every single Filipino with the distinct grace and hospitality with which we welcome every guest that comes into our shores, our communities, and our homes. Love the Philippines is a recognition of our natural assets, our long and storied history, our rich culture and diversity,” she said, while noting that there is so much more to the country than “the fun and adventure” that has so far been articulated.

“The Philippines is a powerhouse of mega biodiversity, being only one of 18 mega biodiverse countries in the world, a deep well of culture and history, a profound burst and taste of flavor and gastronomy, a tapestry of indigenous peoples and creative communities by whose work of their hands have safeguarded the dignity and integrity of the Filipino identity. This is who we are. These complexities and nuances of the Philippines have yet to be fully articulated to the world for indeed, the story of the Filipino has yet to be fully told, and we shall tell that story by telling them the story of love. Love the Philippines,” Secretary Frasco said.

PBBM’s unequivocal support

Gracing the milestone event for Philippine tourism, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed his utmost support for “Love the Philippines”, saying that the enhanced tourism campaign “springs from the genuine love that you, me, and all of us have for the Philippines.”

“And what better way to express that love than by directly incorporating it into our country’s newest tourism campaign slogan, Love the Philippines. This new branding which we unveil today, will serve as our guidepost for the Philippine tourism industry moving forward. Allow me then to express my sincerest appreciation to Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco and for the DOT team, because aside from the promotion of the country’s tourist destinations, the campaign that you have conceptualized aims to enhance the overall experience of every travel, included in that list of targets are to promote regional products, build more infrastructure for ease of travel, and champion green movements, among others,” the President enthused.

Adjusting to the post-pandemic tourism landscape and changing trends

With the everchanging global tourism landscape post pandemic, and the growing desire of travelers for more immersive experiences in their travels, the DOT viewed the enhanced brand as a timely response to the demands of the industry.

In a recent survey conducted by the United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO) among its member countries, market repositioning and rebranding strategies is among the priorities identified after the pandemic based on its Survey Findings on Member Priorities for UNWTO program of work 2024-2025.

With an enhanced tourism campaign in tow, the DOT’s focus now is to show more of what there is to “Love the Philippines” as it works towards the realization of President Marcos, Jr.’s vision for the country to become a tourism powerhouse in Asia.

“Indeed, if we are to compete with our neighbors in our effort as well to partner with them for Asia to become a powerhouse tourism region in the world, the time has come for us to add to the value proposition of the Philippines by telling the world how much more we have to offer,” Secretary Frasco said.

“We have multiple facets of tourism destinations that present a golden opportunity for we have only scratched the surface thus far,” she added.

Rosy prospects for Philippine tourism

According to Secretary Frasco, the world has “the world has noticed that there is so much to love about the Philippines.”

This, as the Philippines has recorded 2,641,993 visitors from January 1 to June 26, 2023, and is close to breaching the 2.65 million arrivals it recorded for 2022.

Further, the tourism sector is regarded as a stalwart as far as contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) is concerned. According to the 2022 Philippine Tourism Satellite Accounts (PTSA) for 2022, the Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA) share of the sector to the Philippine economy, as measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), was estimated at 6.2 percent and amounted to PHP 1.38 trillion in 2022.

The Philippines is also seeing a boost in tourism-related enterprise employment, with 5.35 million estimated tourism employment last year.

As she rallied their support for the DOT’s vision of showcasing the best of the Philippines to the world under the Marcos administration, the Secretary said: “As we usher in this golden era for tourism, for our fellow Filipinos, for our beautiful country, let us find it in our hearts to have that burning pride of place for the Philippines, to Love the Philippines, to usher us into the continued recovery and vigorous comeback of the Philippines to the world.”

What’s the best way to spend a holiday like Independence Day? Is it by revisiting the past and reconnecting with our history in museums and memorials? Is it by lounging around and spending it with our family and friends?
How about this for a different Independence Day idea: in the name of our country’s freedom, you can also go support the economy by shopping and supporting local establishments! As you probably well know, Manila’s got historical shopping joints scattered all over the metro—and the great part is they’re all accessible through the iconic LRT-1 train line. Here are a few you can hit up on your day off:
Baclaran
Anything you want to find, you can probably find at the legendary Baclaran Market, just off of the Baclaran LRT-1 station. From clothes to hardware to food products to shoes and so much more, Baclaran has it all. For those who are also religious, Independence Day also falls on a Wednesday, which happens to be the Baclaran Church Day where pilgrims visit the popular shrine.
Cartimar
The Cartimar Market in Pasay, easily reachable from the Gil Puyat LRT-1 station, is the place to go to when you’re looking for specialized things. Cartimar is the destination for bikes, pets (both pets themselves and accessories), food items, and imported Asian goods that you may not probably find anywhere else.
Harrison Plaza
Harrison Plaza, walkable from the Vito Cruz LRT-1 station, may not be the prettiest nor fanciest shopping center on this list, but it is pretty historic. The first shopping mall in the Malate area, this may be your last chance to visit Harrison Plaza as it is now, because it’s due for a huge makeover soon. Try the popular quick massage services to feel better in an instant.
Divisoria
What isn’t being sold in Divisoria? The answer is probably nothing, as you can get just about everything for a bargain in what is arguably Manila’s most popular bazaar. Take the train all the way to Carriedo station and board a jeep for a quick ride to Divisoria, find what you want to get, start haggling, and maybe get stuff you didn’t even know you had to have along the way. The good part about going to Divisoria? You get to eat in Chinatown, too!

Quiapo
If you prefer getting on the stranger side of things, then the Quiapo market is for you. Also accessible from the Carriedo LRT-1 station, the Quiapo market (in front of the famous Quiapo church) is home to many things mystical and supernatural. You can find fortune tellers and peddlers of interesting wares sitting right next to ordinary vendors of typical market items. Quiapo is definitely an adventure for the curious!
ikotMNL is a tourism campaign launched by the Light Rail Manila Corporation in 2018 to connect foreign and local travelers to Manila’s rich history, cultural heritage, and top food destinations by riding the LRT-1 to areas such as Intramuros, Binondo, Quiapo, and many more.

As a blogger and vlogger, one of my favorite perks and activity is to travel here in the Philippines and around the world.
They say we should travel atleast once a year or every now and then as long as we’re young and we’re able to. I realized that it’s true, we should be traveling anytime we could. For me traveling fulfilling thing. Whenever you are stressed, travel and see what you’ll found. It’s always refreshing to see a new place, meet new people, discover new activities. We’re not destined to be in one place, one of my dreams and wishes is to be able to travel the world or half atleast or even just my favorite places.

Places I’ve touch down

I must say I’m a newbie travel blogger since I also have to work and earn a living but I already been to some of my dream places like Boracay, Palawan, Subic,  here in the Philippines.

Just earlier this year, I’ve travelled overseas and to one of my dream vacation which is Singapore. It was really a memorable experience to travel with the person you love and to be with family and friends.
But after my overseas travel to Singapore, I’ve realized one thing. we should always be protected, be secured and insured!

Insure to be Sure

I must admit that I’m not really fond of boarding and traveling on a plane since I have this fear of heights. Especially travelling abroad with more than 3 hours travel time above the sky makes me think of what mays, I know this isn’t a good thing but I really can’t help sometimes but to think of what will happen or what could happen if something’s happened to me. When we travelled to Singapore we experienced this air turbulence that led me to be fuckin’ scared, thankfully we still landed safely though but, still it was a horrible thing to experience.
After that incident, when we flew back to Manila from Singapore, another unwanted situation arise as one of our luggage where delayed and advised to be picked up the next day! You know we have many issues here in the Philippines about the luggage like the “Bullets in your baggage and luggage,” and my concern was really what happened, and will we be able to get our luggage bag with personal and important items?
After these unwanted instances from what you should be having a worry-free travel, I immediately searched online Insurances for travels. And for me, I found Malayan Insurance Travel Master plan is the plan I should have considered and for sure I will consider in my next out of the country trip!

Lost passport, lost luggage, accidents abroad, third party property damage—these are just some of the unforeseen but possible inconveniences and emergencies that can occur when travelling. Protect yourself and have worry-free travels with Malayan Insurance Travel Master.

For sure if I got this plan on my trip, I would have not worried that much, since I will know everything or come what may, I know I will be covered.
I’m sharing this tip to every traveller since we don’t know what misfortune events we can face every time we travel, life isn’t perfect, so as our travels will be. So my advice is to Insure to be Sure.

What also I liked about Malayan Insurance’ Travel Master, is that you can avail this travel insurance online! For me, as a digital person, almost every transaction, I preferred online, because I really hate long lines and queuing.

Grab your gear and bring out the hero inside you in the Alviera Hero Camp, a heroes-to-be camping weekend in the great outdoors of Alviera in Porac, Pampanga on October 15-16, 2016. Campers can look forward to a weekend enjoying SandBox adventure park attractions along with the excitement of a hero training crash course, superhero movies under the night sky, stargazing with astronomers and so much more.
Alviera features some of the most beautiful natural vistas in the province. Participants can avail of two types of packages to best enjoy the fresh air and views of rolling hills.
Day Adventurer and Weekend Camper packages let visitors ride four SandBox attractions during their stay. These include the Rollercoaster Zipline, the 10-meter high Giant Swing, Aerial Walk and Adventure Tower for free fall, wall climbing and rappelling.
With capes, costumes and secret heroic identities all welcome at the Alviera Hero Camp, participants will log their role-playing adventures in a comic booklet to complete the whole hero course.
Training starts with Hero Basics 101, where expert adventurers and outdoor guides give heroes a rundown on some nature survival skills.
Then what’s a hero training camp without some combat training? In KAPOW!, martial arts masters will teach and demonstrate basic self-defense moves that heroes can practice on the spot. Meantime, the Costume Crafting Corner is for getting creative with hero costumes. Spruce up the mask, design your hero logo, or stitch up the cape.
For an action-filled test of their evil-fighting skills, participants will face the Monster Obstacle Course of Aqtiv Archery. In this archery challenge maze, archers must target monsters and finish the course under time pressure.
Weekend Campers will also get to enjoy the evening’s Parade of Heroes, where they dress up in full costume and go trick or treating in participating booths and camp tents.
Superzoom Stargazing in partnership with the Mind Museum will give heroes food for thought. They will learn to identify constellations, try naked-eye stargazing with laser pointers, telescopic viewing of heavenly bodies, learn night orienteering and how to use instruments like planispheres and astrolabes.
Then heroes can cap off the perfect training day by relaxing and watching superhero movies under the night sky. With SandBox soon to begin evening operations on weekends, campers can also take their four free rides on the selected attractions at night.
Participants to the Alviera Hero Camp are encouraged to take their hero shots in camp and post them on social media tagged with #ALVIERAHEROCAMP. The fun continues after camp when Alviera picks the best photos to win cool prizes.
“Aside from providing an ideal venue for outdoor activities with Alviera’s scenic views and terrain, we wanted people to gain something positive in dressing up and changing into costume,” said Jomi De Guzman, Alviera Project Development Manager. “This Halloween, we’d like to inspire families, especially the kids to live purposely the way heroes do. So the Alviera Hero Camp concept grew from there, a camping weekend that is fun and thrilling where kids and kids-at-heart can discover the heroes in themselves.”
Perhaps the most familiar with real-life heroes would be the scholars of HERO Foundation, which supports children and dependent siblings of fallen military personnel. Alviera Hero Camp will have these scholars on hand as special guests to enjoy all of the camp’s features. A portion of sales for Alviera Hero Camp will also be donated to HERO Foundation.
Alviera Hero Camp packages are available on Travel Factor’s website for P2,100 for Day Adventurers and P2,950 for Weekend Campers. For more information, visit travelfactor.org/alvieraherocamp for more details.
In partnership with Leonio Land, Alviera is an Ayala Land sustainable estate located in Porac Pampanga, accessible via NLEX-ScTex. Envisioned to become a regional growth center of Central Luzon, it features a diverse mix of quality residential, industrial and commercial developments to support local economic growth.

1.      What is the Alviera Hero Camp?

Alviera is a sustainable mixed-use estate located in Porac, Pampanga. It is envisioned to become the business, commercial and lifestyle growth center of Central Luzon. Since the estate opened with the launch of the SandBox adventure park, Alviera has become the premier adventure destination of the north.

Today, we are announcing the Alviera Hero Camp to be held on October 15 to 16, 2016 (Saturday to Sunday). The camp is unique for being a training camp to mold heroes.

We have uniformed heroes making headlines these days, and costumed heroes are now all over movies and TV. The Alviera Hero Camp is for heroes-to be, those in search of a weekend of purposeful adventure and learning. Participants here will experience the thrills of hero role-playing throughout their time at camp, and learn a thing or two about what makes a hero.

2.      What are the activities of the Alviera Hero Camp?

We invite participants as young as four to five years old to join this zero-to-hero adventure experience.

We have a Hero Training Crash Course for kids and kids-at-heart that involve four main activities. Hero Basics 101 takes participants through a short outdoor survival course led by expert adventurers and outdoor guides. After deciding on a hero name, participants can complete the new identity at the Costume Crafting Corner. Here they can create their hero mask or jazz up their own hero costumes.

KAPOW! Hero Combat Training will teach heroes some evil-fighting skills. Martial arts masters will demonstrate and teach defense moves to practice on the spot. Then there’s the Monster Obstacle Course with Aqtiv Archery, where they battle monsters through an outdoor archery maze.

At night, we have a Parade of Heroes where kids wear their hero costumes and can go trick-or-treat across the booths and tents at the campsite.

For those looking for galaxies to save far, far away, the Mind Museum will lead stargazing activities in the starlit skies of Alviera.  It’s quite exciting since their experts will lead naked-eye stargazing with laser pointers, and telescopic viewing of planets, and even the moon. Within each one-hour activity, participants will learn about planispheres and astrolabes, orienteering using the stars and learn to identify different constellations.

We have widescreen superhero movies playing after dark, which visitors will enjoy at the campsite.

Aside from all this excitement, the SandBox attractions will be open for visitors to rev up their hero training. That means the Giant Swing, Aerial Walk, Adventure Tower free fall, rappel, wall climbing, plus Avatar One rollercoaster zipline are open for players. There’s also outdoor archery, the children’s playground and mini-golf course to try.

By the last quarter of the year, SandBox will begin evening operations every weekend so we’re excited to have visitors see these attractions.

3.      Why hold a “Hero Camp” in October?

As an urban development that blends with nature, Alviera is always looking for outdoor activities meant for people to converge, commune and enjoy nature together. Our signature events, sports and fun festivals always return to that goal. The main October event is Halloween, which gives people a chance to dress up in costumes for fun. The costumes are probably the best part of the occasion.

Given that Alviera is surrounded by beautiful and natural terrain that can be enjoyed day and night with our camping facilities, we wanted people to gain something positive in dressing up and changing into costume. Instead of scaring each other as with Halloween, why not inspire others to do better, the way heroes do? So the Alviera Hero Camp concept grew from there, a camping weekend that is fun and thrilling where kids and kids-at-heart discover the superhero in themselves.

4.      Can Alviera Hero Camp participants come in costume?

We would certainly welcome everyone coming in their superhero costumes! We encourage them to post their best superhero shots in Alviera tagged with #ALVIERAHEROCAMP on social media. They get a chance to win Alviera prizes.

But please note that elaborate costumes will not be allowed when trying out SandBox attractions. These might restrict your movement or worse, and safety is our top priority. As a precaution, it might be best to leave your secret identity in your vehicles or in your tents.

5.      Are there beneficiaries for this activity?
Alviera is a major supporter of HERO Foundation, which provides educational assistance to children and dependent siblings of Filipino soldiers killed in action or permanently incapacitated in the line of duty.
A portion of sales to the event will go to the scholarship fund of HERO Foundation. We are also bringing some of these young scholars to come and enjoy Alviera Hero Camp.

6.      What are the packages for Alviera Hero Camp?

Participants can avail of the Day Adventurer and Weekend Camper packages.
Day Adventurer package will include:

§  Use of four free Sandbox attractions:  Rollercoaster Zipline, Aerial Walk, Giant Swing, and Adventure Tower
  • Hero Training Crash Course
o   Hero Basics 101

7.      What must participants bring to the event?

Suit up in comfortable outdoor attire like sneakers, pants and t-shirts. Flipflops and sandals are not advisable inn SandBox attractions. Bring extra clothes and costume, in case you break into a sweat.

Weekend Campers will be supplied with their own tents, but must bring their own beddings.

8.      Will there be comfort amenities at the camp?

Yes, we have ample showers and toilet facilities for participants’ exclusive use at the camp. Sanitation, environmental care and of course, safety and security are all primary in Alviera.

9.      Will the SandBox be open all night for the Alviera Hero Camp?

SandBox will have evening operations for the event so new hours will be 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Regular night operations will be launched in the latter part of the year.

10.  Can we cook or bring food to the event?

There will be some great food concessionaires on-site. Cooking is prohibited for safety reasons. Just bring an extra water bottle for refills and enjoy the tasty food and beverage selection of the Alviera Hero Camp!

100% Filipino owned company “Starlite Ferries,” levels up the competition in the maritime transport as they have just launched their newest ships, 15 new ships that ordered and made from Japan, fulfilling their mission to enhance and improve passengers experience.
The brand-new M/V Starlite Saturn, built by the Kegoya Dockyards in Kure near Hiroshima, Japan, is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art amenities, including CCTV cameras and a helipad for emergency medical evacuation, among others.
Starlite Ferries president Francis Cusi said the new vessel follows the customized design of the three earlier ro-ro units. The company has ordered an initial seven ships from Japan, with eight more to be custom-built later.
M/V Starlite Saturn has a service speed of 13.5 knots or nautical miles per hour. The 2,700-gross ton ship can ferry 711 passengers and 20 drivers in bunk comfortably on its upper decks and up to 21 buses in its hold. Unlike the second-hand ships now plying Philippine seas which were built for sailing in Japan’s calm inland seas, Starlite’s Saturn and other vessels in the Batangas-based shipping company’s fleet are designed to navigate the country’s open sea routes and seasonal rough waters.
What differentiates Starlite Ferries from other domestic shipping companies is its emphasis on passenger convenience and safety. In first-class, passengers travel in style inside air-conditioned cabins, complete with luxurious reclining seats with arm rests. The business class is also air-conditioned, while budget travelers can opt for the economy class where they also have comfortable seating and other amenities.
