Reyes, now 41 years old, writes about the episode in his memoirs “Maricar,” in which he describes experiencing “online humiliation” as a result.

Mara del Pilar y Cajal’s message to women is that they are not alone in their plight. It’s important to remember that no matter how dire the circumstances, there is always a way out.

Throughout the book’s writing process, Reyes—who is now married to singer Richard Poon—has been opening up about everything from the trauma she experienced as a child to the ways in which she has overcome it.

From 2009 until the first public mention of that event in my life in 2022, a lot of time passed. This book took me a total of 12 years to complete. It took me a long time to recover from the emotional trauma caused by its profound significance to me.

Whether you’re facing a “bigat” or “mahirap” problem, and whether or not you think you know the answer, there is a technique that can help you figure it out. Also, if you’re feeling down on yourself, try not to be too harsh. It took her twelve years, she added, before she felt ready to talk about it openly.

In a video discussing the book before its release, Reyes drew a comparison between a marathon and a sprint to stress the need of taking one’s time and not rushing the healing process.

In order to be able to talk about it and have a desire to assist others, it took me 12 years to reach this position. Therefore, if there are any substantial changes that need to be made, it will take some time. Having the mentality that your relationship is a marathon and not a sprint is helpful.

Because so many people nowadays believe that a fast solution is essential, a lot of individuals expect problems to be resolved quickly. There are however certain things that can be resolved quickly. But if there are problems that need fixing, it’s going to be difficult and time-consuming to address the underlying issues, which are sometimes buried deep inside our own souls. “Don’t be too [tough on yourself]; instead, try to be patient,” she said.

On the occasion of the book’s release, Reyes assured her fans that they could “always find a way out,” no matter how dire the circumstances.

Reyes told his reader that hearing how much the book meant to him was “worth it all.”

I never imagined that sharing my story would benefit others in this way. So, kapit lang if you’re having trouble. Rectify your ways and acquire knowledge. “Perhaps someday, your tale will assist others,” she added.
