Before the much-awaited “Fight of the Century” on May 2 (May 3 AEST, Guam and NZDT), Pay Per View on TFC unveils the early days of one of the prized fighters set to bout, Manny Pacquiao, via the movie “Kid Kulafu” starting April 22.

Before People’s Champ Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao faces fellow legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the fight of his life, “Kid Kulafu” details the bareness before the boxing gloves, and his losses before his wins in the boxing ring Pacquiao called life.
Film director Paul Soriano said the film follows Pacquiao’s early days as a child dealing with his family’s search for a home up until the time he faced more challenges as a teenager struggling to make ends meet in General Santos City, Saranggani province (Mindanao, Philippines). According to Soriano, it took Star Cinema and Ten17 Productions two years of extensive research in order to faithfully capture the life of the child before the champion.
“Viewers will discover in the film how hard life was for Manny as a kid in General Santos City. They will get to know a young boy who had nothing but attitude, passion, and fighting spirit to face every challenge head on and knock it out one by one,” shares Soriano.
Pacquiao opened up himself to Soriano in the past and shared: “All the pain and the knock outs I experienced in boxing were just physical pain. But you know what is more painful? It’s the fact that you have nothing to eat, no home where you can rest, and having a broken family. And I endured all those when I was young.”
Buboy Villar who plays the young Pacquiao similarly feels the challenge as he was chosen amongst thousands of hopefuls. In the end, Villar feels proud that he was chosen to portray a Filipino who serves as an inspiration to many people. He says: “Because of ‘Kid Kulafu’ I realized that Sir Manny can be a huge source of inspiration to kids of today. He is hardworking, determined to rise above poverty, and has high respect for his parents and family,” shared Buboy. “When Sir Manny stepped into amateur boxing, his goal was not to win. He wanted to help provide meals to his family and make his parents proud of him.”
Joining Villar are Alessandra de Rossi (Dionisia Pacquiao) and Alex Medina (Rosalio). Also part of the cast is Cesar Montano who plays Pacquiao’s uncle Sardo Dapidran who played a crucial role in the boxing legend’s formative years. “Kid Kulafu” also stars Khalil Ramos and Igi Boy Flores. “Kid Kulafu” is written by Froilan Medina under creative consultant Amor Olaguer and directed by Soriano with fight director Erwin Tagle.
Get to know more about the young Pacquiao via “Kid Kulafu” on Pay Per View on TFC via IPTV from April 22 to June 22 in the Middle East, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand; via satellite in Australia and New Zealand from April 22 until May 10; and via TFC’s official online service TFC.tv from April 22 until July 11.
