On Illegal Drugs Preying Students: DepEd and CHED Must Act Now

Illegal drugs had been one of the difficult problems that the world is facing especially for third-world countries like the Philippines.
Apparently, the proliferation of illegal drug trade in the Philippines is getting worst and alarming as it now evolves and reaches the young market (students) after two college students were arrested and some P1.5 million worth of party drugs were seized.
Given the eventuality of involving students, minors and younger ones to illegal drugs, party drugs and shabu, there is a need to consider what PNP National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Director Guillermo Eleazar previously proposed of random inspections bags and lockers in schools.
Should we allow proposed random check of bags and lockers in school?
I think that this proposal of checking bags and lockers in school is a must and should be allowed and practice since we had a proof of this is happening now after the arrest of two college students involving P1.5 million worth of party drugs.
Imagine the amount of money these students are willing to shell out for illegal drugs instead for their school expenses and tuition fee and necessities. This is very alarming also that younger generations are already dragged into this and becoming a trend now to youth.
We should be aware that this market is younger but they have more means of influencing more and more youths, they have more means of acquiring these illegal drugs because they have more ways and are techies so they can transact online and other platforms. They will be the modern drug users and drug pushers if we will not do anything about it as early as now.
I admire General Eleazar’s gesture and leadership about this matter. For whatever reason or alibi others will be saying to contradict this proposal of Eleazar, I am with Eleazar to this. Let me quote this line from Avengers Doctor Strange movie, “One must break the rule for the greater good.”
If others will think about privacy or other reasons to object the proposal then why not realize the effect of the sacrifice for the greater good, because if youths will be a bigger market soon of illegal drugs, this will be another root of illegal drugs, we had adults market of illegal drugs before that we can’t stop, what more if we will be added by young markets of it that is more complicated and modern.
I also want to encourage other government sectors especially education sectors like DepEd and CHED also to act and join NCRPO Chief Director Guillermo Eleazar in this campaign of anti-illegal drugs to protect the students. I think that more than anyone or any organizations to lead this campaign, should start from you guys, DepEd and CHED.
