One Meralco Foundation continues to light up the Philippines with its “Light Up Pilipinas” campaign

A sudden power outage once had me rant about how awful it was to my dismay. But lately, we had the opportunity to have lunch with important Meralco figures, including Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao, president of the One Meralco Foundation, and Mr. Joe Zaldarriaga, spokesperson and vice president in charge of corporate communications.

L-R: Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao, president of the One Meralco Foundation, and Mr. Joe Zaldarriaga, spokesperson and vice president in charge of corporate communications.

They explained to us the current goals of Meralco, particularly the One Meralco Foundation, to further illuminate the Philippines through the “Light Up Pilipinas” campaign. As implied by the campaign’s name, it concerns Meralco’s initiative to bring electricity to isolated and rural areas of the Philippines that don’t have access to it.

Don’t be like me; I was complaining about a power outage that lasted an hour or two before understanding that I am fortunate to have electricity in my everyday life compared to those who live in a very remote part of the country.

We should also be conscious of how important power is to our daily life. We frequently forget how crucial electricity is since it has benefitted us in so many ways until there is a brownout and we are forced to revert to our more primitive ways and figure out how to exist without it.

Electricity is still the energy source that Filipino families utilize the most frequently. Not to mention the recreational areas in the metropolitan region and the entire country now that everyone is healing from the virus that devastated the country. We shouldn’t consider it a given.

Congratulations to the One Meralco Foundation for their commitment to progressively illuminate the entire nation; in due time, the Philippines will be fully illuminated.
