They revealed on Monday that the members of the K-pop group BTS, beginning with the group’s eldest member Jin, would be serving in the military.
Big Hit Music, the group’s record company, stated in a statement released on the WeVerse app, “The members of BTS are now going ahead with preparations to serve their military duty.”
It was said that the members of BTS are “glad to serve” after “the spectacular concert to support Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030” and “as each person starts on independent efforts.”
“Big Hit” means the seven-member group’s show in Busan last Saturday, which brought in thousands of admirers, many of whom traveled from outside.
Jin, 29, is the first member to enroll, according to the agency, following the publication of his solo album.
“After Jin’s solo release obligations are fulfilled at the end of October, he will begin the procedure. Then he’ll enroll according the Korean government’s rules, “What a slam dunk!
‘Other members of the group intend to carry out their military duty depending on their respective plans,’ it said.
Following their mandatory military duty, the BTS members “are looking forward to reconvening as a group again around 2025,” Big Hit said.
After South Korea’s conscription legislation was changed in 2020, Jin was given an extension until the end of the year.
To avoid obligatory military duty, South Korea has passed a regulation that would enable BTS to delay enlistment.
South Korea is still nominally at war with nuclear-armed North Korea, therefore all able-bodied young males under the age of 30 are required to serve in the military for around two years.
The defense minister of South Korea has previously said that the group BTS, who are largely recognized with introducing K-pop to the mainstream in the United States, may be permitted to continue playing and rehearsing for worldwide performances while serving in the military.
It’s possible that BTS may continue to perform even if they’re required to serve in the military, according to the ministry. The septet stated in June that it will be taking a hiatus from collective activities in order to concentrate on individual endeavors.
