Carla Abellana confessed that the agony of her divorce from her estranged spouse Tom Rodriguez had not subsided.
The actress revealed in an interview with Nelson Canlas for the podcast Updated with Nelson Calas, which aired on 24 Oras Friday night, November 11, 2022, that it is difficult to overcome the anguish created by their abrupt split.
“Oo, definitely. I won’t even hesitate to answer and say yes definitely, but ang pain kasi doesn’t disappear overnight.
“Gustuhin mo mang mawala na yung pain, which in a way something you cannot control, ako, I recognize it na nandiyan pa siya, nandiyan pa siya definitely, nandiyan pa siya.
“Ayoko namang sabihing wala kasi hindi rin totoo yun, so definitely nandiyan pa iyan and matagal pa iyang proseso.”
Hindi pa rin daw nagsi-sink in kay Carla ang salitang “divorce” kung saan sinabi ng estranged husband niyang “divorced” na siya sa aktres.
“Number one kasi, divorce doesn’t exists in the Philippines dahil ang foreign nung divorce, wala kasi sa atin, hindi pina-practice dito.
“Parang hindi pa siya fully nagsi-sink in. Siguro mas doon pa siya magsi-sink in sa akin pag siguro yung dito na na proseso, or dito na naasikaso at na-recognize na siya ng Philippine court.”

Tom announced his divorce from Carla on June 17, 2022. Because Tom is a citizen of the United States, he may petition for divorce.
However, it will be recognized in the Philippines only if a petition for recognition of a foreign divorce judgment is submitted and granted by the court.
According to legal journals, there is no divorce in the Philippines, however if a foreign spouse secures a divorce in another nation, the foreigner’s Pinoy or Pinay ex-wife can marry.

“Oh my gosh, hot seat ito!
“Honestly, hindi ko masasagot na yes or no. Like I said, yung love naman hindi siya nagdi-disappear or parang hindi mo nababawasan nang kusa.”
“At this point, parang hindi ko kakayanin if ever he calls, hindi ko kakayaning kausapin siya.”
