Coming in second place and winning P200,000 for their charity was the team of Vice Ganda, Jugs Jugueta, and Teddy Corpuz, whose performance included Teddy’s proposal and marriage to his wife.
Karylle and Jhong Hilario, meanwhile, placed third and received P100,000 for their musical love story.
Team Anne Curtis-Ryan Bang-Nadine Lustre and Team Billy Crawford-Amy Perez-James Reid both received P50,000 as consolation prize.
After the week-long showdown of “It’s Showtime” hosts, it was the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” hurados’ turn to entertain and impress the madlang people, à la Magpasikat.
Rey Valera, Yeng Constantino, and Mitoy showed a different side of them when they did a full rock performance with Louie Ocampo on the piano.
Jed Madela and Jaya also beatboxed as they performed a rap-hiphop version of “Waray Waray,” while Jolina Magdangal sang a kundiman piece.
Also taking the stage was Ogie Alcasid, who delighted the audience with his maglalatik dance, and K Brosas and Erik Santos, who danced singkil while singing.
Gary Valenciano also showed off his skill of playing zendrum, while Rico J. Pubo capped off the number with his signature “budots” dance.
The episode, which looked back at the program’s glorious eight years of making the madling people happy, also spurred conversations online as the hashtag #ShowtimeLetsCelebr8 trended in the Philippines and worldwide on Twitter.
“It’s Showtime” also pulls out all the stops in the last week of its month-long eighth anniversary celebration as it kicked off the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” Quarter 2 semifinals.
On Saturday, Metro Manila contenders Anton Antenorcruz, John Raymundo, Mark Michael Garcia, and Rico Garcia, and lone Visayas contender Remy Luntayao took on their audition songs.
Next week, they are set to perform their fight song on Monday, song for their families on Tuesday, song popularized by their musical influences on Wednesday, hurado’s choice on Thursday, and life song on Friday. On the last day of the competition, the two singers who will emerge victorious and quality into the grand finals will be announced.
