According to his family, Danny Javier, a singer-songwriter and one-third of the legendary APO Hiking Society, died on Monday. He was 75.
“Complications owing to his chronic sickness,” his daughter Justine Javier Long stated in a statement released alongside her brothers.
“Our Pop never stopped fighting for what he loved, what he believed in, and what he was passionate about, both in life and in death.” “He departed this world with his passion and willpower intact, and we know he wouldn’t have it any other way,” she added.
Long has asked the public to “respect our family’s privacy” at this time while they plan Javier’s memorial and funeral, which will be announced at a later date.
“During this sad time, our family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, prayers, and condolences,” she wrote.
“Sa lungkot at ligaya, hirap at ginhawa, kami’y kasama mo,” Long added, using lyrics from the classic APO Hiking Society song “Awit ng Barkada.”
Javier, along with Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo, are regarded as cornerstones of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), with enduring singles that eventually became stage musicals, in addition to becoming pop culture classics.
The three also became television staples, most notably with their variety shows on ABS-CBN in the late 1990s, such as “Sang Linggo nAPO Sila.”
“My friend’s music lives on,” Garrovillo remarked on Monday. “I’m simply mourning the death of an old reliable friend who knew what love was, even if it didn’t always show.”

Javier kept out of the spotlight when the APO Hiking Society retired in 2010, but Paredes and Garrovillo continued active in showbiz.
Garrovillo stated that a reunion performance in 2022, when the three members agreed in their political views after previously fighting, was “not physically viable,” noting Javier’s illness.
Javier stated in February that he was unable to perform because he was “recovering from many medical issues.” He highlighted congestive heart failure, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and peritoneal dialysis.
While Javier chose to live in solitude until his death on Monday, the outpouring of tributes to him attest to his legacy of helping establish the groundwork for contemporary OPM.
